1990:  The US 31 Coalition was formed to accelerate the design and construction of US 31.

 

1992: INDOT began an in-depth study of the US 31 projects.

 

1995-2006: Studies continued, but funding was not available for construction.

 

2006: Governor Daniels and the Indiana General Assembly passed the Major Moves program, which providing funding for the first three sections of the US 31 project.

 

June 2006: St. Joseph/Marshall Counties segment environmental study completed.

 

May 2007: Howard County segment environmental study completed.

 

September 2008: Construction in St. Joseph and Howard Counties began.

 

December 2008: Hamilton County segment environmental study completed.

 

June 2011: Hamilton County construction begins.

 

December 2013: Howard County open to traffic.

 

December 2014: St. Joseph/Marshall Counties open to traffic.

 

December 2015: Hamilton County open to traffic.

 

April 2016: INDOT begins a new US 31 Corridor Feasibility Study from SR 38 in Hamilton County to US 30 in Marshall County.
